Day 7 – Norwegian Tour

While the rest of the Alps are taking a rest today from XC flying due to very poor conditions, we start our final day in Bassano. The northern flow brought the fresh and buoyant airmass as far as to Italian Voralpen. Normally at this time of the season Bassano stays very stable, hardly allowing climbs higher than 1200 m. However today we have almost a spring situation with early cumulus clouds popping up over Montegrappa and even in flatlands. … Read More

After another cold front passed through yesterday, the Austrian Alps are suffering from NW flow again and it is a fair bit of a task to find a good area for flying today. In classical spots such as Greifenburg or even Gemona the cloudbase is predicted to be very poor. The forecast is also calling rain showers for the afternoon. These conditions together with NW wind could put anybody down, however our weather maps are positive about one corner of … Read More

Today we see this picture from our window: We take a rest day to have a long lecture session devoted to technical aspects of hang gliding. Apart from that since we happen to be in basically cradle of Prosciutto, we are planning to spend some time on checking out nice restaurants in our vicinity 🙂 We have to get ready for tomorrow, which is promising to be a day in western corner of Dolomites!     We devote our … Read More

After a short briefing today morning we drove from Meduno to Vittorio Veneto. Our plan is to fly from Pizzoc take off today. This high point of the Italian Southern Alpine ridge faces SW and allows to get up straight to the cloud base as the spot appears to be a local “thermal kitchen”. The cloudbase is predicted to be quite high for this area — 2000 m and the W-SW wind will support our task to fly from … Read More

Today we are leaving our base in Greifenburg and heading to south. In our region the cloudbase is not going to be high throughout all southern part of Austrian and Italian Alps. However, what is not high enough for a decent flight in Greifenburg can sometimes be more than good in Italy. The next two days promise to be suitable for flying in the areas of Vittorio Venetto, Meduno and Gemona. Most of our pilots have never flown in Meduno, … Read More

Fresh morning in Greifenburg but we are already about to leave to Südtirol, to the place called Kronplatz, which is a famous takeoff in Pustertal.   Coming to the take off, which can be reached by the cable car:The weather looks promising, we have decent NE on the take off, some paragliders are already floating on the level of Kronplatz top (2275 m). This take off is not an early start for cross county flights. As our plan is … Read More

Today we start our tour with 7 Norwegian Pilots who came over to the Alps for mountain flying. We are planning to have a warming up flight at Radsberg (Austria). The previews days were affected by a cold front passing through the Alpes. Yesterday we had intensive showers with lots of cloud cover. These factors together with a North flow expected today will surely govern the flying conditions during our task. We hope that the air is going to dry … Read More

Day 7 – Russian Course

Sunny and beautiful in the Greifenburg area again! Decided to launch from Emeberger alm, discussing the route during our morning briefing at Gasthof post. Follow us with the livetracking today: Low cloudbase didn’t allow most of us to follow the task towards the higher ridge. Nevertheless, the flying was very beautiful, playing with the clouds led to some impressive gopro shots, the group was flying together and that was fun!

Today the bad weather conditions are passing the Alps, so we are having a theory day. We watch and analyze tracklogs and gopro-footage from our flying in Italy. Also, Gerolf tells us about fullface and open helmets, and explains the EN966 certification. Lots of information for one day!
